CIRCUM|STANCE

Exhibition open 11am – 5pm daily.

‘Meet the artists’ event on 5 June (6 to 9pm).

Circum|Stance brings together ten contemporary artists from six different countries in a group exhibition exploring connection, perspective, and the conditions that shape how we see the world.

How do we hold our own perspective while remaining open to others? It sounds simple. Right now, it feels urgent.

Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, installation, sculpture and mixed media, the exhibition presents a diverse range of practices rooted in personal, cultural, and social experience. Rather than offering a single narrative, it invites viewers into a space where different voices coexist, challenge, and inform one another.

The title reflects this tension. “Circum” suggests a shared encompassing space, while “stance” points to individual viewpoint and position. Together, they frame an exhibition that is both collective and deeply personal.

Visitors will encounter work that ranges from intimate and reflective to bold and expressive, moving between realism and abstraction. Across the exhibition, themes of identity, memory, environment, and human connection unfold in different forms, encouraging a slower, more attentive way of looking.

This collective was formed through years of shared critique and conversation, with all the artists having completed Postgraduate 4 with the Contemporary Art Academy. Circum|Stance is the moment those conversations take physical form, with ten distinct voices occupying a shared space and asking audiences to sit with the differences rather than resolve them.

Alongside the exhibition, a series of artist-led workshops and talks will offer opportunities to engage directly with the creative process, including painting workshops exploring slow looking and attention. These sessions open up conversation between artists and audiences, extending the exhibition beyond the gallery walls.
